Easter DIY: How to make fabric bunting

Easter is another excuse to get a little crafty and make some cute decorations to adorn your home. I’m going to show you how to make fabric bunting without picking up a needle and thread! If you’ve ever lusted over cute vintage bunting then look no further as making your own bunting has never been easier. I have two designs for you that will both inject that shabby chic look into your home. They are cheap to make and look so pretty hung up. So what are you waiting for?!

Rustic hessian & canvas bunting
For this rustic bunting, you will need some ready-made canvas bunting shapes, lace, jute ribbon and hessian. I’ve linked the products for you to see; you can pick them up in many craft stores including The Range and Hobbycraft. This bunting is so simple to make, all you need to do is cut some egg shapes from the hessian and glue them to the canvas bunting. Use a hot glue gun to attach the lace to the jute ribbon and glue the bunting shapes along the lacy cord. Easy-peasy!

Vintage rag bunting
This second swag doesn’t even involve glue! Cut strips of fabric and tie them along a length of bakers twine. I used a packet of spotty and striped pastel-coloured fabric fat quarters which are perfect for Easter. Floral fabric also makes great bunting, just make sure you mix and match the patterns for an eclectic look. To finish off, I added some mini wooden pegs. Top tip: Instead of painstakingly cutting each strip of fabric, simply cut a little snip at the bottom of your material and tear. You’ll see the sales assistants do this in fabric shops! This method frays the edges of your strips, adding to that shabby chic look.
